Bell’s Best Brown Ale
(16/20)

The economy is crashing. The job market sucks. It’s the middle of midterms, major projects. The Blackhawks lost. Don’t panic; it’s time for hop-therapy! I picked this up ‘for some healing’ after having a bunch of their other beers (again) at Hopleaf during the b-day fiasco. If nothing else, I hope this encourages you to check out more from Bell’s, I sure as hell am. [Ed. with Kevin reminding me I am an idiot (see following review) THIS is the actual 75th review...or something. :D]

Brewery Hometown: Comstock, MI

Appearance: Dark red/brown, slightly cloudy. Little ‘flavor bits’ seem to be hovering around in my pint glass. Light tan head that lingers for a little while.

Aroma: Notably fragrant after the first pour…I’m aroused; it’s like autumn in a bottle. Roasted, nutty with strong caramel/coffee roundhouse kicks.

Taste: Toasted malts and the color brown. Yeah, the color brown. Full bodied and roasted caramel malts much in the vein of the aroma (thankfully). The tail end is surprisingly sweet but the overall profile is very hearty and warming. The less ‘traveled’ beer-drinker may think of a richer, thicker Newcastle minus any metallic bite. Very easy to drink and smile. I don’t find this beer to be particularly surprising or groundbreaking but it very well balanced, clean and enjoyable. Hard to complain!

Alcohol: 5.8%

Drink one or all?: One, then try to stop.

Cost: $10/sixer

Overall: 16/20. Finding more from this brewery ASAP.
