Hacker-Pschorr Weisse
(18/20)

Oh it’s a wonderful time of year. Finals are over and everyone is extremely excited to be heading home to see friends and family. This time of year is notorious for pretty much all the authors here, full of extremely late nights and epic story creation. And here I sit, on the eve of winter break, looking out on the Chicago skyline, enjoying the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack and drinking good beer: fuck yes.
Hacker-Pschorr is a long time favorite of mine that has been my “what to get at any sub par grocery store beer selection right before the party beer”. Figured it’s about time to get the full beertastic rundown.

Brewery Hometown: Munich, Germany

Appearance: Hazy, warm yellow. Gets you excited for some wheaty flava. Decent white head. Lots of little bubbles, its the “champagne of beers!”

Aroma: Wonderfully sweet and wheaty. Hints of spice and coriander. It flirts with your nose just right.

Taste: Mmmmm. Joy. Crisp, refreshing and again, wheaty; the coriander seems to perk up quite a bit (almost giving hints of banana or cloves? sounds gross but I only mean the mixing aromatics). Has a well balanced sweetness that isn’t too sappy or subtle. Overall surprizingly light feeling, but packing ample taste. I love the warm, sweetened finish that it leaves in your mouth after its over, awesome. LOL I have to add that the brother of this pint I am reviewing (Evanston law dictates you have to buy pints in pairs) was drank lukewarm during one of my finals this quarter and was awesome – it was a bunch of presentations and the prof recommended it, but had a cold and couldnt share with me. PS Jenny likes it too.

Alcohol: 5.5%

Drink one or all?: All. Seriously. Not to heavy but full of flavor. LOVE.

Cost: $9/sixer (?)

Overall: 18/20. Favorite baby.

Have you guys tried the Oktoberfest? It’s also pretty good, despite being darker and having a bit more bite to it.

“Champagne of Beers” = Miller High Life

In all honesty, I think the Hacker-Pschorr is a little too yeasty. Not as bad as Weihenstephaner, but not as refreshing as Edinger. Try Edinger Dunkel Weiss.
